This is a large region, covering courthouses in:
- Barrie
- Bracebridge
- Cobourg
- Durham
- Lindsay
- Newmarket
- Peterborough
The most recent notice, effective July 27, 2020, shows the difficult situation that the Court is facing regarding normal operations. Some highlights include:
- Civil (non-Family) Trial Sittings scheduled to commence on November 16, 2020 are cancelled
- Non-jury civil trials that were supposed to proceed in Nov/2019 or May/2020 may be called, starting Oct 5/2020, when a criminal trial collapses. There will be 48 hours notice and if counsel are not able to start, then their matter falls to the bottom of the list.
- it is uncertain whether any civil jury cases will proceed to trial before May 2021
In the world of lawsuits against insurance companies (i.e. car accidents, injury claims, long-term disability claims, denials on business or home insurance, etc), most of the Trials are with a jury.
